It’s official!  Independent Cuyahoga County Executive candidate Ken Lanci will be on the ballot in November after turning in the required signatures to the Board of Elections today.

“I am pleased to have cleared the first hurdle in this process toward reform.  We are now one step closer to giving democracy back to the people,” said Lanci. “Gathering the signatures allowed us to meet thousands of enthusiastic voters.  It seems the people are eager to have an Independent working for them.”

Partisan candidates must only submit 50 signatures to participate in the primary election.

Independent candidates do not participate in the primary and are therefore required to submit 4,546 valid signatures to get their names on the ballot for the November election.

“We were fortunate to have a great team of family, friends and volunteers working hard to gather the signatures.  We went door to door and gathered signatures during summer events.  We were actually so successful we did not need to hire an outside company to help,” said Lanci.

Lanci today turned in 7,700 signatures, well above the required number of 4,546.

Lanci turned in 7,370 signatures for pre-check last week.  5,215 of them were valid signatures.  According to the Board of Elections, the average accuracy rate is about 60 percent.  The accuracy rate for signatures on the Lanci petitions submitted for pre-check was 71 percent.
